Bayern Munich will be confident of a comfortable passage to the quarter finals of the Champions League when they welcome Sporting Lisbon in the second leg of their knockout stage clash on Tuesday. Catch all the live football feeds from the Champions League here on Live Sport Network.

 

 

The German giants put up a brilliant attacking display in Portugal to thrash Sporting 5-0 in the first leg and will have to play their worst game in recent seasons to bow out of the competition at this stage. Franck Ribery started the onslaught by putting Bayern in the lead three minutes before the half time whistle.

The goal opened the floodgates for Bayern with Miroslav Klose doubling the lead in the 57th minute while Ribery scored his second from the penalty spot six minutes later. Luca Toni completed the rout late in the game by scoring a brace that saw Bayern take a commanding lead in the fixture to all but assure their place in the quarter finals.

 

 

Bayern have an excellent home record against Portuguese opponents, winning seven and drawing just two of the nine matches played on German soil so far and will be confident of adding another win on Tuesday.

As for Sporting, an improved performance is all that manager Paulo Bento can hope for as the Portuguese club will have to make history in order to qualify for the next stage. The best comeback ever in the competition was by Deportivo LaCoruna when they overturned a 4-1 deficit against AC Milan by qualifying to the next stage with a 4-0 win but had the advantage of a home tie in the second leg.
