Bayern Munich will be looking to maintain their excellent recent form and take a commanding lead in the first leg when they welcome Fiorentina in their Champions League knockout stage clash on Wednesday. The German giants have shrugged off a poor start to the season and have won their last 11 games in all competition including a 4-1 win away to Juventus that saw them book a place in the knockout stages.

Having suffered a disappointing defeat to eventual winners Barcelona in the quarter finals last season, manager Louis Van Gaal will be looking to improve on that record and help his side lift their first even Champions League trophy since 2001 starting with a comfortable victory over Wednesday.

Meanwhile Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli will be hoping that his side can put behind their disappointing run of form and come up with a good performance on Wednesday that will see them pull off an upset in the tournament.

Fiorentina will be looking to register their first win on German soil and take one step towards qualifying for the quarter finals for the first time since 1969-70. Both the teams were clubbed in the same group last season with Munich securing a comfortable 3-0 win at the Allianz Arena. Cristiano Zanetti continues to remain out of action for Fiorentina with the midfielder not expected to return to training until next week.
