Bayern lost 1-0 at home to Schalke 04 last week, a result that saw them drop to third in the Bundesliga. With the possibility of not playing Champions League football next season looming large over their heads, the Bayern management decided to show Jurgen Klinsmann the door, and brought in Heynckes as interim manager.

Bayern will be without the services of winger Franck Ribery, who was sent off in the game against Schalke. Ribery, Bayern’s player of the season in the eyes of many, got his marching orders in the second half for a tackle on Jefferson Farfan.

Borussia Monchengladbach slipped into the drop zone for the first time since Week 23 after they drew against Arminia Bielefeld and Energie Cottbus shocked leaders Wolfsburg. Gladbach currently have 24 points from 29 games, two points behind Cottbus and one point behind Bielefeld.

Karim Matmour gave Gladbach the lead against Bielefeld in the 12^th minute, only for Robert Tesche to equalise for the visitors twenty minutes later. The home side pushed hard for a winner in the closing stages of the game, but were unable to find a way past the Bielefeld back four.

When Gladbach hosted Bayern last November, Die Fohlen were 2-0 down with fifteen minutes to go, but strikes from Rob Friend and Michael Bradley gave them a point.
