A disappointing 2-1 defeat to Bordeaux in France has seen Bayern slip to third in the group table, one point behind second placed Juventus who are expected to secure all three points against Maccabi Haifa in the midweek. Bayern looked on course for a vital victory after taking an early lead thanks to an own goal by Michael Ciani. However the Bordeaux defender made amends to his error by leveling the scores midway through the first half before Marc Planus grabbed the winner five minutes before the half time whistle.

With Bordeaux hitting top form, Bayern coach Louis van Gaal will be aware that his side will have to be at their best and improve on their home form if they are to have any chances of remaining in contention of progressing to the next round.

While Bayern are unbeaten in their last eight home games on the European stage, five of those matches have finished in draws including a disappointing 0-0 draw against Juventus last month. The German giants though could be helped by Bordeaux's poor away form that has seen the French champions lose three of their four away games in Europe. Bordeaux's lone point on the road came against Juventus early in this campaign as they held the Italian giants to a 1-1 draw.
