European Champions Barcelona will take on UEFA Cup winners Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Super Cup at the Stade Louis II in Monaco this Friday. Watch all the live football from the curtain raiser of European football here on Live Sport Network as the best in Europe compete for the ultimate glory.

Barcelona had a fairytale season under new boss Josep Guardiola last year. They won the Spanish FA Cup, the La Liga and the Champions League in a commanding display of attractive football.

The Spanish giants will be hard pressed to repeat that feat this year, but they can make a start by winning the UEFA Super Cup for only the third time in their history. The Catalans have won the trophy in 1992 and 1997, but lost to Sevilla in the 2006 edition.

The club has not made any major signings this season except for allowing Samuel Eto'o to leave the club and swapping him for Zlatan Ibrahimovich from Inter Milan. Pre-season games have not been so good for the Catalans after they lost 1-0 to Manchester City in a friendly last week.

However the players will be up for a challenge in Monaco and it should be a treat to watch.

On the other hand Ukrainian club Shakhtar have never played in a UEFA Super Cup game, but will play hard in this fixture. Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu has had previous experience in this competition winning it with Galatasaray SK in 2000.
