The Barcelona machine shows no signs of halting its shuddering march toward this season’s La Liga title and now finds themselves ten points clear of the chasing pack after their 2-1 win at Villarreal last time out. Barcelona had a hard game last time out at high flying Villarreal, but despite going behind to a 48^th Cani goal, they came back splendidly with two goals – on 54 minutes from Keita and 66 minutes from French striker Thierry Henry. Apart from Pique, Barcelona’s injury and suspension list is virtually non-existent and they will be going into the year’s first game in fine fettle.

For their part, Mallorca earned a creditable goalless draw at home against second place Sevilla in their last league game but it means they are still languishing in seventeenth position in the league with just 14 points. The team hasn’t won a league game for eight matches and these are troubling times for the management, players and fans of the club. The last thing they need now is a trip to the Nou Camp!
