Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard, whose job is said to be hanging by the thread, would have been pleased with the 2-0 win at Mallorca even though it leaves the Catalans 7 points adrift of leader Real Madrid.

Goals from Rafael Marquez and Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o ensured Barcelona did not concede more ground to Real Madrid in the La Liga table. However the win may not be enough to save Rijkaard's job. Talk of Brazilian striker Ronaldinho joining Chelsea has gained momentum as well. Ronaldinho did not feature in the Mallorca match due to tendonitis and it is unclear if he will be risked against Murcia.

Goalkeeper Oier Olazabal will be on the bench after regular reserve keeper Albert Jorquera was injured prior to the Christmas break.

Murcia on the other hand have had a great season till date. In their first La Liga live game in the New Year, they beat Osasuna 2-0 thanks to goals from Henok Goitom and Abel. The win was especially sweet for Murcia as they had won just one of their last 10 games in all competitions until then.

Coach Lucas Alcaraz would have been delighted with the win as his team's next few fixtures include clashes against Barcelona, Real Zaragoza, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal. Ivan Alonso, Stephane Pignol, Curro Torres, Juan Cruz Ochoa and Albert Crusat continue to be sidelined for Murcia.
