Barcelona are currently placed second in the league table but are nine points behind league leaders Real Madrid. The club currently going through a lean patch of form and manager Frank Rijkaard will now be looking to at least finish second in the La Liga table with Villarreal hot on their heels just one point away in the third position.

Barcelona on the other hand have smashed eight goals during the same period but defensive fragilities mean that have dropped seven points from a possible 12.

Espanyol have had a decent record against their rivals in recent meetings, having notched up one win and two draws in their last three matches.
