Wales are on the fourth spot in Group 4 behind Finland, Russia and Germany and manager John Toshack is well aware that their hopes of qualifying for South Africa are very slim. However he will still hope his side can perform creditably and come away with a win from Baku.

Toshack's task has been made very tough because multiple members of the squad are out with injuries. Craig Bellamy, Owain Fon Williams, Simon Davies, Jason Koumas, James Collins Danny Gabbidon and David Cotterill have all been ruled out with various niggles.

On Monday, defender Gareth Bale was added to this list after suffering a knee injury. Toshack has called up Shaun MacDonald to replace Bale. In addition to all these worries, Jack Collison and Sam Ricketts are also doubtful starters. The former has a knee strain, while the latter is struggling with back issues. Striker Ched Evans may also miss out as he is suffering from a back injury.

Wales prepared for this game with a 1-0 win over Estonia in a friendly last Saturday with Robert Earnshaw scoring the only goal from a penalty. Toshack fielded the youngest Wales side in the history of the country's football and handed debuts to Joe Allen, Andy King and Simon Church.

Meanwhile Azerbaijan face Turkey in a friendly game on Tuesday before playing this one. New boss Berti Vogts will hope his side can show some improvement and climb up the table where they are currently fifth with one point from four games.
