Azerbaijan are currently on the fifth spot of their World Cup Group Four in the European round of World Cup qualification. In their last game over the weekend, the Azeris lost 0-1 to a young Wales side to sink to new lows.

A lone goal from David Edwards was enough to give all three points to Wales and leave new boss Berti Vogts with plenty to ponder as he sets about reviving football in the region.

Meanwhile Spain continued their imperious march towards the World Cup in South Africa with a fine comeback win over Turkey last weekend. Spain beat Turkey 2-1 thanks to goals from Xabi Alonso and Albert Riera after Semih Senturk's 26th-minute goal had given Turkey the lead.

The win took Spain to the top of Group Five with 18 points from six games played so far.

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque was delighted with his side's showing, but still insisted that the race to finish at the top of the group was wide open. Spain have a six-point lead over Bosnia-Herzegovina in the group.

Meanwhile playmaker Andreas Iniesta has been withdrawn from the squad for the upcoming Confederations Cup after tests showed that his thigh muscle injury was more serious than expected.
