Three of Lyon's summer signings- Michel Bastos, Lisandro Lopez and Bafetimbi Gomis, were on target in the Champions League playoff game against Anderlecht. Miralem Pjanic opened the scoring for Les Gones on nine minutes, and Lopez made it 2-0 from the spot six minutes later. Bastos and Gomis made it 4-0 by half time, and Gomis added Lyon's fifth and his second shortly after the hour mark as Claude Puel's men outclassed their Belgian opponents.

Prior to the Anderlecht game, Lyon had beaten Valenciennes 1-0 at home. Bafetimbi Gomis' first half strike ended up being the difference between the two sides. Playmaker Ederson and defender Francois Clerc are unavailable for OL because of injury.

Auxerre are currently second from bottom after losing both their league fixtures till now. AJA were beaten 1-0 by Sochaux at home in Week 1, and also slumped to a 2-0 away defeat against Rennes last week. Kevin Monnet-Paquet and Abdoulrazak Boukari scored for Lens in that game.

Auxerre have looked short on confidence in their first two league games, and their lengthy injury list is not helping their cause either. Denis Oliech has joined Julien Quercia, Ireneusz Jelen and Alexandre Licata on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Last season's corresponding fixture ended in a goalless draw.
