The Spaniards have had an excellent year so far, winning 14 of their 15 matches played so far. The only blot came in a shock 2-0 defeat to United States in the Confederations Cup early in June.

However with Spain boasting a perfect record in their World Cup qualifying campaign, coach Vicente del Bosque will be pleased with his side's performances and will be confident of a victorious campaign in South Africa next year.

Spain go into their match against Austria high on confidence following their 2-1 win over Argentina in their friendly match on Saturday. Xabi Alonso gave Spain an early lead in the 16th minute and though Lionel Messi equalized two minutes past the hour mark, it was Spain who secured a deserved victory as Alonso scored the winner from the penalty spot four minutes before the full time whistle.

Jesus Navas made his debut for Spain after coming on as a substitute in the second half and with the 23-year old traveling with the squad to Austria, the Sevilla winger could be handed his first start for his country as he looks to overcome his homesickness problem ahead of the World Cup next year.

Meanwhile Austria will be looking to overcome the disappointment of missing out on yet another World Cup when they play Spain on Wednesday. Austria finished third in their group table, seven points behind second placed France.

Though they were not expected to qualify out of the group, coach Dietmar Constantini will be disappointed with the campaign and will be looking to build on some positive results before the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign starts next year.
