England travel to Austria on Friday knowing fully well that they might not be here next year for the Euro 2008 finals. They have themselves to blame as their UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying campaign has stuttered into the final stage where they are hoping Israel beats Russia on November 17 to keep their hopes alive.

England coach Steve McClaren will be very aware that the game at the Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna could very well prove to be a redundant fixture should Russia defeat Israel on Saturday.

Austria coach Josef Hickersberger has recalled Martin Stranzl and Andreas Ibertsberger to the side following their recovery from injuries. Both defenders had last featured in an international way back in August in the 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic.

Austria are on a high following their 3-2 win against Ivory Coast on October 17 and will look to keep winning against England and Tunisia, whom they face on November 21.

England on the other hand have multiple injury worries ahead of their crucial Euro 2008 qualifier with Croatia on November 21. McClaren is tipped to go with Aston Villa's Scott Carson in place of Tottenham's Paul Robinson, whose form has been dodgy to say the least.

Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves is put of the game with a knee injury, while striker Wayne Rooney is out with an ankle injury sustained during training. John Terry is recovering from a knee surgery, while Rio Ferdinand s suspended for the game against Croatia.

However Steven Gerrard, Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard are all fit to play and McClaren will hope they can face Croatia unscathed. McClaren has recalled David Beckham to the squad and will like to give him as well as Ashley Cole some match practice against Austria.

Many experts feel McClaren will have to go if England fail to qualify for Euro 2008. However the former Middlesbrough manager has insisted he will not quit.
