One of the favorites to progress to at least the knockout stage, Denmark secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Senegal last weekend with Christian Poulsen and Tomas Enevoldsen scoring the goals in either half.

Coach Morten Olsen had rested some of his key players with Nicklas Bendtner not being included in the squad while Martin Jorgensen, Per Kroldrup and Lars Jacobsen started on the bench. There was an injury scare in the game with Simon Kjaer stretchered off the field with a knee injury though Olsen is confident that the defender will be available for the World Cup.

Meanwhile Australia coach Pim Verbeek will be aware that his side will have to improve fast if they are to pose any serious challenge to qualify to the knockout stage. Though the Socceroos beat New Zealand 2-1, it was a far from perfect performance by Verbeek’s side though it was enough for him to cut out three players from the preliminary squad.

Scott McDonald, Jade North and Nick Carle have been released from the World Cup squad though Verbeek has picked up James Holland, Tommy Oar and Eugene Galekovic as backups should any of the players get injured.
