The Socceroos qualified from the Asia zone along with Japan and South Korea after being held to a 0-0 draw by Qatar on Saturday. Australia coach Pim Verbeek as delighted with his side's performance as he led his side to qualification for successive World Cups for the first time in their history.

Captain Lucas Neill was also overjoyed as Australia reached South Africa 2010 with plenty to spare. Their game against Bahrain could be a celebration of sorts with boss Verbeek having the option to rest his star players like Tim Cahill after a long hard season in domestic leagues in Europe.

Verbeek could elect to try out fringe players in the final few games. Australia had not conceded any goal in the final stage of qualifying round and maintained their record against Qatar as well thanks to experienced custodian Mark Schwarzer.

Meanwhile Bahrain are still in with a chance to qualify for the play-off place in Asia and need to win this one to stay in the hunt. They currently have seven points from six games and are well-placed to ensure they get a play-off spot.

In their last game in April Bahrain had beaten Qatar by a 1-0 margin thanks to a goal from Faouzi Aaish to keep their qualification hopes alive.
