The Rojiblancos are still in the bottom three having managed to collect just 7 points from 11 games played so far. Their dismal form has seen coach Abel Resino sacked and new manager Quique Sanchez Flores continues to search for his first win.

Last week, Atletico were beaten 2-1 by Deportivo La Coruna despite taking a third minute lead through Sergio Aguerro. Diego Colotto equalised after 20 minutes and the game appeared a stalemate when Pablo brought down Alberto Lopo in the area. Andres Guardado scored from the resulting penalty to give Depor all three points and to consign Atletico to their third straight defeat under Flores.

For this game Jose Antonio Reyes and Thomas Ujfalusi are doubtful starters, but Diego Forlan is expected to be fit.

Meanwhile Espanyol sank to their fourth defeat of the season when they lost by a 0-2 margin to Getafe. Goals from Francisco Javier Casquero and Pedro Rios late in the second half sealed the game in Getafe's favour.

Espanyol started the season brightly and had a seven-game unbeaten run, but recent results have been disappointing. The side will look to regain form in this game. Ferran Corominas and Luis Garcia are doubtful starters for the club in this clash.
