After managing just one win from their first 11 games, Atletico have climbed up to 13th in the league table two wins in their last two matches. The Colchoneros built on their excellent 4-0 win over Espanyol with another comfortable victory over Xerez last weekend.

Diego Forlan continued his excellent scoring form for Atletico by putting his side in the lead on the half hour mark before Sergio Aguero wrapped up the points by doubling the lead midway through the second half.

While coach Quique Sanchez Flores will be happy with his side’s performances in their last two league games, Atletico go into the match this weekend following a disappointing exit from the Champions League after suffering a 3-0 defeat at home to Porto on Tuesday.

Flores will be missing a number of his key players with Tomas Ujfalusi, Raul Garcia, Roberto and Florent Sinama Pongolle all out of action due to injuries.

Meanwhile Villarreal will be looking to maintain their recent run of form that has seen the club collect nine points from their last five games including a thrilling 3-2 win over Getafe last weekend. The Yellow Submarine have endured a disappointing start to the new season though they look to have turned their form around.
