Atletico Madrid failed to win for the fourth La Liga game in a row last weekend, when they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Malaga. With each game the team fails to win, Champions League qualification is slipping away from them and if they want to enjoy a run in the competition as they have been doing this season, they have to start winning - and soon. They have a chance to start doing just this at the weekend when they host Valladolid in what promises to be an interesting game. Atletico travelled to Malaga last time out and again failed to win. The 1-1 draw means that they remain in a disappointing sixth position in the La Liga table with 32 points but the positions immediately behind them are all bunched up within four or five points, so any more slip ups by Atletico could conceivably see them free fall down the table.

When they host Valladolid on Sunday, they will be at full strength and so because of this will be hoping to return to winning ways in front of their own fans. Anything less than a victory will be a complete disaster for Madrid’s second team and the murmurs of discontent rolling off the stands will become deafening crescendos.

For their part, Valladolid were held to a 1-1 home draw by Espanyol last weekend and now find themselves in twelfth position in the league table with 24 points, along with three other teams. They have gone five league games without a victory and their away form this season has been very poor, with a record of one win, one draw and seven defeats in their nine games.
