Atletico beat Turkish giants Galatasaray 3-2 on aggregate in the previous round. The two sides drew 1-1 in Madrid, but Atletico stunned Gala 2-1 in Istanbul thanks to a last gasp winner from Diego Forlan. Atletico needed another late goal to draw 1-1 with Real Zaragoza in La Liga on Sunday. The goal was scored by Senegalese substitute Ibrahima Balde, who headed home Jose Manuel Jurado’s cross past Zaragoza keeper Gago.

Sporting have embarked on a nice little run of their own, scoring ten goals and conceding none in their last three games. They thrashed Belenenses 4-0 on Sunday, with striker Liedson netting all four goals in the second half. Liedson and three other Sporting players are a booking away from missing a European game. Sporting beat David Moyes’ Everton 4-2 on aggregate in the Round of 32.
