Atletico have started the season really well and are currently sitting pretty in third position with the same amount of points (nine) that arch rivals and city neighbours Real Madrid have, with Real second virtue of a better goal difference.

 

 

Atletico had a great midweek away win at Getafe with Sinama Pongolle showing he is in top form this season by bagging another two goals in a 2-1 victory. This victory followed a 4-0 thumping of Recreativo with Sinama Pongolle again scoring a brace of goals in that game as well.

Their home form thus far reads played two, won two, scored eight, conceded none whereas opponents Sevilla haven’t won away yet this season having played two and drawing both of them. Atletico will still be without Diego Forlan but his absence has not been noticed at all with the form that Sinama Pongolle has been showing recently.

 

 

Sevilla themselves sit in fourth position just one point behind Real and Atletico. They enjoyed a 2-0 home win in midweek against Espanyol, which followed up a 0-0 draw last weekend away to Betis.

Sevilla are missing four players through injury for their weekend trip to Madrid; Abdoulay Konko, Renato, Arouna Kone and Javi Navarro all absent with various knocks. They will be buoyed however, by the fact that they have started the season so well and will head to Madrid at the weekend without any hang-ups.
