Atletico Madrid enjoyed a fantastic 5-2 victory last Saturday when they travelled to Gijon, thrashing local side Sporting. Atletico Madrid are now unbeaten in seven league games – a run that has included four wins and three draws; their last defeat was in the Madrid derby. This run of form has lifted them to sixth in the La Liga table with 24 points – one position and two points behind city rivals Real. Last weekend the team were in Gijon and gave local side Sporting the run around with Diego Forlan and Aguero grabbing two apiece in a thrilling 5-2 victory.

They seem to have sorted themselves out after the early season wobbles that had them sitting in the lower echelons of the league table, but they are well on course to again claim a Champions League slot – a competition that they are doing so well in this season. Once the bug bites it’s a hard thing to let go of, so they will fight tooth and nail to get back into the competition next season.

With no injury problems or suspensions to contend with (their midweek Champions League game against Marseille in France notwithstanding), Atletico will start as hot favourites in the clash against Real Betis this Sunday coming and will be hell-bent on securing another three points.

Real Betis come into the clash with Atletico on the back of a 1-1 home draw with Espanyol and now sit in ninth position in the league with eighteen points. Their away form seems to be on a par with their home form this season and have won three, drawn one and lost three games on their travels. They too enjoy a relatively free injury and suspension list and will travel to Madrid thinking they can achieve something from the game.
