Atletico Madrid will be looking to wrap up their qualification to the knockout stage by collecting all three points from their Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday. Atletico looked on course to a well deserved victory over Liverpool in their last match after taking the lead through Maxi Rodriguez in the 37th minute. However Liverpool fought back well and equalized five minutes into injury time through a Steven Gerrard penalty leaving Atletico with some job to do in their remaining two matches.

Both Liverpool and Atletico are tied on eight points but the Spanish side are placed at the top of the group table based on a superior goal difference. Atletico could qualify for the knockout stage even if they fail to beat PSV on Wednesday provided Liverpool do not lost to Marseille in the other match.

 

 

PSV meanwhile will have to win their remaining two matches if they are to qualify for the knockout stage though manager Huub Stevens will be satisfied if his side manages to finish third in the table and qualify for the UEFA Cup.

A disappointing group campaign has seen PSV Eindhoven lose their first two matches. The Dutch side looked to have turned their form with a 2-0 victory at home against Marseille but lost the return leg in France, leaving themselves at the foot of the group table.
