Aberdeen travel to Atletico Madrid knowing full well that another loss could put them out of the running for a place in the next stage of the UEFA Cup. Aberdeen were held to a 1-1 draw by Lokomotiv Moskva in their last UEFA Cup game despite taking an early lead courtesy of a 27th minute goal from Diamond.

However Branislav Ivanović leveled for the Russian team and both sides had to be happy with a point each. Aberdeen were able to make the main draw thanks to their win on away goals against FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the first round

However they started off badly with a 3-0 loss to Panathinaikos in what was also their 100th European appearance. Aberdeen FC manager Jimmy Calderwood will be hard pressed to motivate his side, who went down to Celtic 3-0 in their SPL clash last weekend. Aberdeen are also hampered with an ankle injury to Darren Mackie. Aberdeen are fourth in Group B of the UEFA Cup with 1 point from 2 games played thus far.

Atletico Madrid on the other hand have begun their campaign with a 3-3 draw at Lokomotiv Moskva. Teenage striker Agüero had scored twice in that game and he could prove to be a threat to Aberdeen. Atletico manager Javier Aguirre will be hoping his side can pull off a win in front of home fans.

The team has injury worries though as Seitaridis is expected to be out for 6 to 7 weeks following surgery on his troublesome Achilles tendon. Meanwhile Forlan is also out after pulling a muscle in his thigh. He is expected to miss up to three weeks.
