Bilbao confirmed their progress to the next round when they beat Austria Vienna 3-0 on Match Day 5. A brace from Fernando Llorente and a 62^nd minute Mikel San Jose strike were enough for the visitors to claim victory at the Franz Horr Stadium in the Austrian capital.

San Jose was also the first scorer in Athletic Bilbao’s 2-1 weekend win over Real Zaragoza in the Spanish La Liga. Susaeta scored Bilbao’s other goal twenty minutes later as Los Leones got the better of struggling Zaragoza. Teenage star Iker Muniain had a huge role to play in Bilbao’s win. He came off the bench and set up both goals.

Werder Bremen picked up their fourth win Group L a fortnight ago when they crushed Nacional 4-1 at the Weserstadion. Swedish striker Markus Rosenborg netted twice in the first half to put Werder 2-0 ahead, but Nacional were back in the game when Ruben Micael scored on the hour mark. However late goals from Marcelo Martins and Marko Marin ensured that the Green Whites would condemn Nacional to their third defeat in the group stage.

However Werder have not won a game since that 4-1 win. They drew with Cologne a week ago and were beaten 2-0 at home by Schalke 04 on Saturday. The result allowed Schalke to move above Werder in the league standings, while the Green Whites themselves fell to fourth.
