Aston Villa picked up their fifth straight win in all competitions as they beat Portsmouth 2-0 on Saturday. James Milner and Gabriel Agbonlahor netted for the Villans, who have not lost a single Premier League game after their opening day loss to Wigan Athletic.

Villa were eliminated at this stage of the competition last season. London outfit QPR dumped Villa out thanks to a second half header from Damion Stewart. Striker Emile Heskey has picked up an ankle injury, and is not expected to play in this Cup tie.

Cardiff City put in one of their worst performances under Dave Jones as they were beaten 2-0 by QPR at Ninian Park. After a great start to the season, the Bluebirds seem to have hit a roadblock. They have now lost three of their last four Championship games.

Jones was particularly critical of Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd, both of whom have not managed to find the back of the net in Cardiff’s last four league games. Ross McCormack is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Midfielder Stephen McPhail will serve the second game of his three match suspension. Cardiff beat Bristol Rovers in the previous round. Michael Chopra, Peter Whittingham and teenager Josh Magennis scored for the Bluebirds in their 3-1 win.
