After watching local Andalusian outfit Malaga crash out at the hands of Atlante, Martin O'Neill's men must beat the CONCACAF Champions League winners in their final Group C match to have any hopes of making it to the semifinals of the Peace Cup. Villa looked dead and buried after their loss to Malaga, but Atlante's fluent 3-1 win over the latter has thrown them a lifeline. They now need to beat Atlante by a margin of two or more goals to advance to the semifinals of the competition. A 1-0 win will not be enough as Atlante will go through because of their superior goal difference.

Former Chicago Fire youngster Eric Lichaj was impressive in his debut against Malaga. Emile Heskey is a doubt for this fixture after being concussed in a challenge with Malaga defender Weligton. Heskey played only six minutes of the Malaga game.

Atlante only need to avoid defeat against the Villans to progress to the last four. Even a narrow loss will do for the reigning CONCACAF Champions League holders. Atlante outclassed Malaga in their tournament opener, and took their chances to record a fluent 3-1 win.

Gabriel Peyeyra opened the scoring for Atlante on 17 minutes after being fed by Giancarlo Maldonado. Malaga hit back seven minutes later through Jose Juan Luque. Rafael Marquez Lugo made it 2-1 shortly after the hour mark, and midfielder Christian Bermudez delivered the knockout punch six minutes later to end Malaga's live Peace Cup campaign.
