Aston Villa will be looking to return to winning ways when they welcome West Ham in their next Premier League match on Sunday. Villa have not played a league match since back to back defeats to Arsenal and Liverpool in December. The defeats saw them slip out of the top four and with Manchester City hitting a green patch of form, manager Martin O’Neill will be aware that his side will have to start winning consistently if they are to have any hopes of rejoining the race for the final Champions League spot.

While Villa’s Carling Cup semi final clash against Blackburn Rovers and last week’s league match against Wigan Athletic were postponed, O’Neill’s side have played an FA Cup game this month, securing a comfortable 3-1 win at home to Blackburn.

West Ham on the other hand could find themselves slipping back into the relegation zone this weekend if they fail to collect all three points against Villa. The Hammers are level on points with 18th placed Bolton Wanderers but have played two games more than their rivals.

Manager Gianfranco Zola has revealed that he wants to strengthen the squad during the transfer window with a new striker being his main target. However the West Ham manager admitted that he is yet to receive a green light from his board and will be holding talks with them this week to ascertain whether money is available to buy new players.
