After travelling just six kilometres to meet West Bromwich Albion at the weekend, Aston Villa play their first Carling Cup game of the 2008-09 season against Queens Park Rangers at Villa Park on Wednesday. Martin O’Neill’s men could have made an appearance at the second round, but it was decided that it would be Manchester City, and not them, who would have to play an extra game. In line with our extensive coverage of the Carling Cup, we are offering live streaming of the Aston Villa vs QPR match. Villa came out of Bulgaria with a 3-1 win in the UEFA Cup , and that would have greatly raised the spirits of Martin O’Neill’s team. Villa have been unbeaten at home in the Premiership this season, winning 4-2 against Manchester City and holding Liverpool to a goalless draw. Last season, Villa beat Wrexham 5-0 in the second round but were stopped by Leicester City, O’Neill’s former club, in the third round.

QPR beat Swindon Town 3-2 away in the first round, and then brushed aside the challenge of Carlisle United 4-0 in the second round, with Emmanuel Ledesma scoring a hat trick. They also recently beat Southampton and Norwich City despite being reduced to 10 men in both games after just half an hour of football. In their weekend Championship fixture against Coventry City, they lost 1-0, but not before giving the Sky Blues some anxious moments in the second half. QPR’s recent impressive onfield performances have been overshadowed by the ones off it- the board recently decided to hike ticket prices, and the fans were not too pleased with it. Category A tickets are now expected to cost as much as £50.
