FH Hafnarfjordur travel to Villa Park for the second leg of their UEFA Cup qualifier against Aston Villa on Thursday night, knowing that their exit from the tournament is all but guaranteed.

 

 

The Icelandic team lost their home leg 1-4 to Villa a fortnight ago, and manager Heimir Gudjonsson has already admitted that his side has no chance in the second leg.  FC Hafnarfjordur are second in the Urvalsdeild ( The Icelandic Premier League) after seventeen games, two behind leaders Keflavik. In their last league game, Hafnarfjordur produced an amazing second half comeback to draw 3-3 with Fjolnir Reykjavik. Hafnarfjordur were trailing 3-0 after an hour, but goals from Guðnason, Guðmundsson and Viðarsson allowed them to walk out of the game with a point.

 

 

Aston Villa followed up their 4-1 win over Hafnarfjordur by beating Mark Hughes’ Manchester City, but Martin O’Neill’s side were shocked by Stoke City last weekend. Mamady Sidibe’s late goal gave Stoke and Tony Pulis their first win in the Premier League. Villa have been less than convincing defensively- they have let in five goals in two Premiership games, and could have let in more than one against FH in the first leg of their UEFA Cup live tie. It is an area O’Neill would like to tighten up, and they can begin by keeping a clean sheet against Hafnarfjordur in the second leg. Rory Delap’s throw ins caused Villa all kinds of problems against Stoke, and Hafnarfjordur could take a lesson or two from the way the Potters attacked Villa. Gareth Barry put in an excellent performance for Villa in the first leg, and will hope for an encore.
