After producing an excellent display to beat bitter rivals Manchester United 2-1 at home on Saturday, Arsenal welcome Wigan Athletic to the Emirates for a fourth round League Cup clash on Tuesday. Arsenal were short on confidence after surrendering a two goal lead against Tottenham, losing to Stoke and drawing against Fenerbahce, but Arsene Wenger's youngsters showed great spirit to beat Manchester United and keep their title hopes alive. Even without Emmanuel Adebayor and the suspended Robin Van Persie, Arsenal rode on the back of a Samir Nasri double to clinch three points at home. The result would have been a huge morale boost to Wenger, and his side will approach the midweek League Cup fixture with renewed vigour. In the third round, Arsenal whipped Sheffield United 6-0, with Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela grabbing two goals apiece. With Adebayor and Van Persie both out for this game, the onus will again be on Bendtner and Vela to deliver.

Wigan drew 0-0 with Stoke City at the weekend. Tony Pulis' men defended well, and try as Wigan did, they could not find a way past Thomas Sorensen. With the likes of Amr Zaki, Emile Heskey, Wilson Palacios and Luis Valencia in their side, Wigan can prove to be a handful. In their third round game, Wigan beat Ipswich Town 4-1, with all the goals coming from different players. Last season, they did not progress past the first round, when they lost to Hull. Wigan have been inconsistent this season, which explains why they are in the bottom half of the table despite beating Manchester City and giving Liverpool a run for their money.
