The Gunners are in a strong position to secure their progress to the next round thanks to a brilliant goal by Emmanuel Adebayor in the first leg. Villarreal dominated the first half and threatened to run away with the tie after taking an early lead through Marco Senna but Arsenal fought back to equalize with a superb overhead effort by Adebayor in the 66th minute.

Arsenal have an excellent home record in the competition, not losing a single European match since their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea back in 2004 and have since then remained undefeated in the last 23 matches.

Villarreal have already tasted defeat away to Arsenal, with both the teams having last met during the 2005-06 semi finals which saw the Gunners secure a 1-0 win enroute to their defeat to Barcelona in the finals.

While Villarreal manager Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping that his side will be able to secure an improved result in the second leg, the Yellow Submarine will have to score against the Gunners, a feat that no other team has managed in the European competition so far this season.

Arsenal will be high on confidence following their thumping 4-1 win in their domestic clash on Saturday while Villarreal slumped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat to suffer a fresh blow to their UEFA Champions League aspirations for the next season.
