The Gunners have lost two in a row , but the defeat at home against title rivals Chelsea would have hurt most. Following their 1-0 loss to Sunderland away from home, Arsenal slipped to a 3-0 loss to Chelsea last week. Billed as the game that would turn their season, that derby proved to be one-sided although the Gunners had a majority of the possession. Two brilliant goals from Didier Drogba and an own goal from Thomas Vermaelen gave Chelsea a deserved win. Arsenal are now 11 points adrift of the leaders with their title credentials in tatters even before the December fixtures.

Manager Arsene Wenger has acknowledged the need for a proven striker in light of Robin Van Persie's injury and has indicated he will be shopping in January. Nicklas Bendtner is at least two weeks away from fitness and that leaves just Eduardo and Carlos Vela upfront. Wenger though has expressed confidence in his youth policy, which will be tested when his side visit Manchester City in the League Cup on Wednesday.

Meanwhile Stoke City continued their dogged showing this season with a 0-0 draw against Blackburn last week. The draw left the Potters in the top half of the Premiership table above Fulham with 20 points from 14 games played so far.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis will hope his side can replicate last season's showing and finish in the top 12 of the league. He has quelled all talk of an European place next season, preferring to concentrate on the league at the moment.
