Arsenal take on Portsmouth in their next Premiership fixture on Sunday hoping to regain a place in the top four on the league table and stay in contention for a Champions League spot at the end of the season. The Gunners are currently 5th on the league table with 31 points from 18 games. With Aston Villa mounting a serious challenge to the "Big Four," Arsenal have slipped out of the exalted group of clubs assured of entering the Champions League either directly or through qualification rounds.

Manager Arsene Wenger is under pressure this season what with disunity in the club following outbursts by former skipper William Gallas that the Gunners were not brave enough. Wenger is also facing an injury crisis with skipper Cesc Fabregas out for at least four months with ruptured knee ligaments.

Theo Walcott is out with a shoulder injury, while Thomas Rosicky is out with a hamstring injury. Kolo Toure is doubtful starter with a calf muscle strain, but Emmaneul Adebayor will be back after serving a one-match suspension in their Boxing Day clash against Aston Villa.

Meanwhile Portsmouth have had mixed results since the departure of manager Harry Redknapp. New boss Tony Adams has allowed Lassana Diarra to leave the club for a fee of 20 million pounds and may be looking to strengthen the midfield. Jimmy Bullard is a reported target.

Pompey owner Alexandre Gaydamank has put the club up for sale and may not want to fund any spending spree in January, so Adams will have limited funds. He also faces injury worries as Glen Johnson is yet to recover from a knee injury. However John Utaka and Younes Kabloul are fit. Portsmouth currently occupy the 10th spot on the league table with 23 points from 18 games, but a couple of bad results could see them slip dangerously close to the drop zone.
