A poor run of form has seen Arsenal collect just four points from their last five matches to leave them 10 points off the pace at the top of the table. A defeat against Chelsea on Sunday will all but end their hopes of winning the league and with an uphill task of breaking back into the top four positions should Manchester United and Aston Villa win their respective matches.

The Gunners secured a morale boosting victory over Dynamo Kiev in their Champions League clash in the midweek with Cesc Fabregas taking over the captain's armband from Willam Gallas. The former Chelsea defender played for the full 90 minutes and is expected to take the field again on Sunday against his former club.

 

 

Chelsea on the other hand will be hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table with Liverpool scheduled to play West Ham on Monday. The Blues endured a frustrating night on Wednesday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bordeaux. It was Chelsea's second draw in as many games after Newcastle United had done brilliantly to come away with a point from Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Manager Luiz Felipe Scolari will be expecting nothing less than all three points on Sunday. Last 10 meetings between the two clubs have yielded three wins a piece for each club while four have ended in draws. Last season saw Arsenal win this fixture thanks to a 45th minute goal from Gallas though manager Arsene Wenger will be happy if his side can manage to avoid defeat this time around.
