Arsenal were dumped out of the Carling Cup after suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat to arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Tuesday. Goals from Jermaine Jenas, Robbie Keane, Aaron Lennon, Steed Malbranque and an own goal by Nicklas Bendtner helped Spurs win their first match against Arsenal at White Hart Lane in over nine years.

With Arsenal scheduled to play Newcastle twice in space of four days, manager Arsene Wenger will be hoping that his side will overcome the disappointment of the defeat and concentrate on the remaining competitions.

Meanwhile newly reinstated Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan will be looking to improve on his side's performance from the drab 0-0 draw to Bolton Wanderers last weekend. The result was almost an anti climax after a full week of hype over Keegan's decision to come out of retirement to manage a team he almost won the league title with.

The Magpies had lost to Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates stadium early in the season but bounced back well to hold the Gunners to a 1-1 draw last month. Newcastle were dumped out of the third round last season and looked set to bow out from the same stage this time around after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Stoke. However a brilliant attacking display saw them thrash Stoke 4-1 in the replay and Keegan will be hoping that his side will maintain a same level of performance throughout the season.
