Armenia v Kazakhstan LiveHaving lost 1-0 to Portugal on November 17, Armenia are still ahead of Kazakhstan in the Group A Euro 2008 qualification table and will hope to keep that position when the two sides clash at the Republican Stadium in Yerevan on November 21 in what is their last chance to shine on European stage albeit in the qualifiers.
For Armenia, who lost their coach Ian Porterfield to cancer, midway through the campaign, the match is of added significance as they can finish high up on the table. Hugo Almeida's header late in the first half was enough to lay the Armenia team low in Leiria.
However they gamely battled on to give Portugal a good game before the final whistle. With Poland already having qualified for next year’s Euro 2008 live in Austria and Switzerland, the race for the second berth is between Finland and Serbia in this group. Finland and Serbia meet on November 21 and the team that wins goes through.
For Kazakhstan the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign was always going to be a tough one with teams like Poland, Finland and Serbia to contend with. On top of that the Kazakhstan team is beset with injuries. This has made the task of Kazakhstan coach Arno Pijpers harder, but he has still named a 23-man squad to take on Serbia and Armenia.
Defender Samat Smakov and midfielder Andrei Karpovitch will not play against Serbia, but should be back for the Armenia clash. Dmitri Lyapkin and Daniyar Mukanov and midfielder Eduard Sergienko are still struggling to recover full fitness and it is unclear if they would be fit in time for the November 21 clash.
Armenia is sixth in Group A with 9 points from 11 games, while Kazakhstan is seventh with 7 points from 12 games. Watch Armenia vs Kazakhstan Live on free-football.tv. Tags: Armenia, Euro 2008 qualification, Euro 2008 live, Euro 2008 qualifying, Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Live Posted: |
