Greek side Aris Thessaloniki is familiar with Bolton as both sides had clashed in the UEFA Cup last year. A last-minute equalizer from Stelios Giannakopoulos had allowed Bolton to get away with a 1-1 draw in that game.

 

 

Bolton went on to survive in the English Premiership in the last couple of weeks although pundits had predicted relegation.

Manager Gary Megson has revamped his side allowing Senegal striker El Hadji Diouf to move to Sunderland. Diouf had been vocal in his desire to leave and Megson appeared happy to see him go. Bolton have bolstered their midfield with the signing of Dutch winger Mustapha Riga on a three-year deal.

The club has also tied up the contracts of keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen and defender Ricardo Gardner. Sweden striker Johan Elmander has also been signed up by the club, as has Fabrice Muamba from Birmingham City.
