Argentina beat Nigeria 1-0 in their first group game thanks to Gabriel Heinze’s well taken early header. The Albicelestes could easily have scored three or four times more but Super Eagles keeper Vincent Enyeama was in fine form as he produced save after save to keep his side in the game. Lionel Messi had a great game for Argentina and was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet.

Right back Jonas Gutierrez and midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron did not look too convincing against Nigeria and will have to pull up their socks against the speedy South Koreans. Newcastle winger Gutierrez was caught out of position on several occasions, while Veron’s passes were guilty of finding the touchline rather than his team mates.

South Korea produced a confident performance to beat Greece 2-0 in their opening game. An early volleyed strike from Lee Jung-Soo and a 52^nd minute effort from Manchester United’s Park Ji Sung saw the Taeguk Warriors run out 2-0 winners.
