Algeria face Angola in a must win game in Group A of the African Nations Cup with both sides eager to collect all three points and progress to the quarterfinals of the competition. Angola made up for a woeful performance in their opening game against Mali by beating Malawi by a 2-0 margin. The hosts had let go of a 4-0 lead in the game against Mali allowing them to come back and grab a point in the process of drawing the game 4-4. Such an occurrence was not going to happen in the game against Malawi as the Angolan defence was tightened up considerably.

Second half goals from Flavio in the 48th minute and Manucho in the 54th minute sealed a fine win for the hosts and kept their hopes of a quarterfinal spot alive. Angola coach Manuel Jose will hope his side can rise up to the occasion and progress through in style. Jose has fitness worries over Dede and Gilberto, but is confident the duo will feature in this game.

Meanwhile Algeria put aside off-field worries and recorded their first win of the tournament when they beat Mali by a 1-0 margin. Rafik Halliche's header in the 43rd minute gave Algeria all three points and got their campaign back on track after a shock 3-0 loss to Malawi in the opening game.

However the team is in strife off-field with reports of a bust-up between midfielder Khaled Lemmouchia and coach Rabah Saadane. The former has been sent home citing family reasons. There are also reports that Faouzi Chaouchi and teammate Mohamed Ousserir were involved in fisticuffs after training although the Algerian FA refused to comment on these reports.
