Amkar were beaten 3-1 in the first leg at Craven Cottage. The Red Blacks had substitute Vitali Grishin to thank for a crucial away goal that gives them some hope ahead of the return leg at the Zvezda stadium. Grishin’s 77^th minute volley means that Amkar can still progress if they beat the Cottagers 2-0 at home.

Amkar lost their weekend game in the Russian Premier League to relegation threatened Kuban Krasnodar. Malian international Dramane Traore scored the winning goal in the second half for Kuban. Amkar have now collected 18 points from their 19 league games, and are fourth from bottom in the league.

Andy Johnson, Clint Dempsey and Bobby Zamora were on target for Fulham in the first leg. However the win was overshadowed by an injury to Johnson, who broke his collarbone after a challenge from Dmitry Belorukov. Johnson will miss the second leg, and is expected to be out for close to two months. Damien Duff made his Fulham debut in the first leg, and helped in the creation of the third goal.

Fulham were beaten 2-0 by Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea on Sunday. Strikers Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka were on target for Chelsea as they continued their domination over Roy Hodgson’s side. Chelsea also looked fresher than the Cottagers, which was probably to do with the fact that they did not have a midweek European game.
