The two teams clashed in an acrimonious play-off for a spot in the World Cup last November. Algeria won that game and Egypt will be itching to set the record straight.

Algeria defeated favorites Ivory Coast by a 3-2 margin in the quarter-finals. The North Africans came from behind twice in the game. Salomon Kalou had given the Elephants the lead, but Karim Matmour pulled it back in the 30th minute. Kader Keita looked to have hit the winning goal in the 89th minute, but Madjid Bougherra equalized in the 90th minute. Substitute Hameur Bouazza scored in the 93rd minute to seal a win for Algeria.

Algeria boss Rabah Saadane will hope his side will not lose focus in this game.

Meanwhile Egypt beat Cameroon 3-1 to progress through. Achille Emana gave Cameroon the lead, but Ahmed Hasan equalized in the 37th minute. It stayed 1-1 till 90 minutes forcing extra-time. Mohammed Gedo and Ahmed Hasan scored within 5 minutes to give Egypt a well-deserved win.

Manager Hassan Shehata will be confident his side can go through and get a chance to win their third consecutive African trophy.
