Al Ahly came into the game having lost the first trophy of the Egyptian season to Haras El Hadood and were outclassed at Wembley stadium. They managed to keep the game goalless for half an hour, but once former AC Milan midfielder Massimo Donati opened the scoring, the goals kept pouring in.

Australian international Scott McDonald made it two before half time, and he and Shaun Maloney made sure of all three points for the Bhoys as Celtic went 4-0 ahead before the hour mark. Tony Mowbray made his substitutions, but the agony did not end there for the Red Devils. Chris Killen added a fifth late in the game as Celtic ran out 5-0 winners.

 

 

Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola used a largely reserve side against Spurs, with Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure the only survivor from the lineup that started against Manchester United in the Champions League final. Yet the Blaugrana never looked overawed by the occasion, and the opening goal from teenage star Bojan was another piece of magic from the Catalans.

Apart from Toure, Martin Caceres, Eric Abidal, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Seydou Keita and Henrique were the recognisable men who played in the game. It took a late header from youngster Jake Livermore for Spurs to draw level. Lilywhites boss Harry Redknapp was effusive in his praise of the Blaugrana, and described the Catalan youngsters as “excellent”
