Ajax qualified for the group stages by beating Slovan Bratislava 7-1 on aggregate in the playoff rounds. Captain Luis Suarez scored four times in the first leg, and thus made the second leg nothing but a mere formality for Martin Jol’s men.

Ajax are keeping pace with the early leaders in the Dutch Eredivisie. The Amsterdam outfit have 13 points from six games, just a point behind joint leaders PSV and Feyenoord. Martin Jol’s men hit NAC Breda for a six in their weekend game. Dario Cvitanich scored twice in the first half as Ajax raced to a  4-0 lead at the interval. The Argentine forward completed his hat trick on the other side of the interval and another goal from Swedish star Kennedy Bakircioglu resulted in an emphatic 6-0 win for Ajax.

Timisoara, last season’s runners up in Romania, beat Shakhtar Donetsk in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, but were unable to produce another giant killing feat as VfB Stuttgart eliminated them in the play-off round. Stuttgart beat them 2-0 over two legs.

Like Ajax, Timisoara have also played six games in the Romanian league so far. However they trail current leaders Brasov by four points. The Alb-Violetti drew 0-0 with Astra Ploiesti on Sunday- their fourth straight draw in all competitions.
