The Gers crashed out of Europe during the midweek after their third straight home loss. Stuttgart beat them 2-0 thanks to goals from Sebastian Rudy and Zdravko Kuzmanovic. The loss meant Rangers European sojourn is all over and the only hope of significant silverware for them is the SPL.

Here they are doing well, though as they stormed back to the top of the table thanks to a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock last week. Goals from Kris Boyd, Kenny Miller and Steven Whittaker gave Gers a well-deserved win and moved the side to the top of the table with 25 points from 11 games played so far.

Manager Walter Smith will hope his side can preserve their good start to the season and defend their title.

Meanwhile Aberdeen maintained their place in the middle of the table by holding Motherwell to a 1-1 draw last week. Lukas Jutkiewicz had given Motherwell an early lead in the 13th minute, but Gary McDonald equalized in the 67th minute and indulged in a bizarre celebration, which saw him sent off.

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee will be relatively satisfied with his side's showing and will hope it will continue in this game as well. He will be without Chris Maguire and Sone Aluko in addition to McDonald for this game.
