Aberdeen are still hopeful of making it to the Europa League next season, but have a tough task ahead of them as the season nears its end. The Dons have 48 points from 33 games and are currently fifth on the SPL table, just one point behind Dundee United.

The club were beaten 2-0 away from home by Celtic last week and will hope to gain some advantage when they play the Hoops in front of home fans this weekend. In that game goals from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Scot McDonald laid Aberdeen low.

Lee Miller and Darren Mackie will again miss this game; the former due to suspension, while the latter is struggling with a hamstring problem. Zander Diamond will also miss the rest of the season after it emerged that he needed ankle surgery following his exit from last week’s defeat to Celtic.

Meanwhile Celtic have 74 points from 33 games; just one point more than Rangers. The Hoops have squandered a commanding lead of nine points at one point of the season. Last week's win over Aberdeen was a morale booster, but Gordon Strachan's side will need to be on their best this week as well.

Their hopes have taken a hit after striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink aggravated a hamstring problem last week. Georgios Samaras and Stephen McManus are battling thigh and ankle problems respectively.
