United were held to a 0-0 draw in the opening match of the group stage and could have ended the game in an embarrassing defeat had Villarreal managed to convert their chances late in the game. Manager Alex Ferguson will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the 2005-06 season when his side was dumped out of the group stage following a similar result against Villarreal in their first group game.

Dimitar Berbatov could make his Champions League debut for Manchester United after missing out the first match with an injury. The Bulgarian striker has so far looked subdued in the two matches that he has played but will be confident of a good performance having already scored against Aalborg for Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Cup last season. However United will be without the services of Edwin van der Sar and Michael Carrick who are both out injured.

 

 

Meanwhile Aalborg will be hoping to build on their good performance against Celtic in their first group match, having held the Scottish champions to a 0-0 draw. The Danish side were expected to lose the match comfortably but put up a brilliant performance with keeper Karim Zaza leading the way to deny Barry Robson from the penalty spot as Aalborg held on to their clean sheet in spite of being down to 10 men.

Michael Beauchamp will not be taking part in the match after receiving a red card against Celtic as Aalborg look to maintain their 100 percent home record in Europe this season having already beaten FK Modrica and FBK Kaunas in the qualifying stages.
