Manchester City travel to the Energi Nord Arena this week to face Magnus Pehrsson’s Aalborg in the second leg of their UEFA Cup Round of 16 tie. City beat Aalborg 2-0 at home, with Ecuadorean striker Felipe Caicedo and midfielder Shaun Wright Phillips scoring for Mark Hughes’ side. While the first goal was all about Caicedo’s strength, Wright Phillips showed his class and pace in the second.

City lost their weekend Premier League game 1-0 to Chelsea. Both Robinho and Elano were disappointing in that game, and with Craig Bellamy injured, they will have to pull up their socks against AaB Aalborg.

 

 

The task in front of Aalborg is immense. They need to score at least twice, while ensuring that they don’t concede an away goal at the same time. Aalborg have never scored at home against an English club, and are yet to taste success against an English club in European competition. Aalborg drew their weekend Superligaen game against Sonderjyske. Andreas Johansson’s first half strike for Aalborg was cancelled out by Sonderjyske’s Jesper Kjaerulff. Last year’s Danish champions, Aalborg are finding the going tough this season at home. To add to their woes, Thomas Enevoldsen is suspended for this game.

City’s away form in Europe has been impressive. They have only been beaten once on the road in their last ten games, and have a good record against Danish opposition in this year’s UEFA Cup live.
