Alkmaar did not have much to smile about in their first game against Olympiakos losing 1-0 in Greece. A lone goal from Vassilis Torosidis was the difference between the two sides. AZ were hoping to cash in on the confusion caused by the unexpected departure of Olympiakos coach Temuri Ketsbaia.

However that was not to be and they will now hope to open their account in this game on Tuesday. AZ boss Ronald Koeman will hope his side can rise up to the challenge at home. Mounir El Hamdaoui and Pontus Wernbloom are out of this game with knee injuries, while Joey Didulica is expected to be available after recovering from a knock.

Meanwhile Standard Liege will be low on confidence for this game after they let slip a 2-0 lead over Arsenal on Matchday 1 to lose 2-3. Eliaquim Mangala had given Liege the lead in the 3rd minute and Milan Jovanovic had doubled that lead from the penalty spot in the fifth minute. However, Arsenal fought back with goals from Nicklas Bendtner, Thomas Vermaelen and Eduardo to grab a famous win.

Standard coach Laszlo Boloni will have been disappointed with his side's capitulation, but will hope for better things in this game. But the side's preparations took a hit after Cedric Collet broke a metatarsal in his foot and is expected to be out for eight weeks. The club is already without skipper Steven Defour, who is out for three weeks after breaking a foot.
