Rovers lost 2-1 to Scottish giants Rangers in their opening game on Sunday. The Gers went ahead when Maurice Edu nodded in Steven Davis’ 10^th minute free kick. Steven Naismith and Kyle Lafferty then combined to set up striker Kenny Miller for Rangers’ second, thus allowing them to lead 2-0 at the interval.

Miller then missed a glorious opportunity to put the game beyond Blackburn’s reach just after the hour mark when he blasted his penalty over the bar. Minutes later, David Dunn pulled one back for Blackburn from the spot after Madjid Bougherra had fouled Junior Hoilett.

AEK Athens beat Sydney FC 5-3 in their opening game and will fancy their chances of taking all three points against Rovers. Sam Allarydce’s side were slow to start off against Rangers and looked quite rusty against the Scottish outfit. Things improved for Rovers as the game progressed, but not enough to pick up a point.
