Everton scored thrice in the first half as AEK were overwhelmed by David Moyes’ side. Defenders Joseph Yobo and Sylvain Distin put the Toffees 2-0 ahead after just seventeen minutes. Steven Pienaar and Jo also got their names on the scoresheet as Everton crushed AEK at Goodison Park.

AEK have also lost their last two Greek Super League games. The first one saw them lose 2-1 at home to Olympiakos, and they were then beaten 1-0 by Panathinaikos in the Athens derby on Sunday. Dusan Bajevic’s men are currently 8^th in the Super League with seven points from five games, eight behind leaders Panathinaikos.

Nuno Gomes and Oscar Cardozo were on target for Benfica as they beat Belarussian side BATE Borisov 2-0 on match day one. Both the goals at the Estadio da Luz came in the first half.

Cardozo has now scored an astonishing eight goals in Benfica’s last five games. He netted a brace in Benfica’s 5-0 thrashing of Leixoes on Saturday. David Luiz, Ramires and Maximiliano Pereira were the other scorers for the Eagles in that Portuguese Liga game. Benfica have not won in their last six European away games, and they will be keen to set that record straight.

In their last visit to Greece, Benfica were thrashed 5-1 by Olympiakos. It happened just a year ago, but under a different coach.
